Hanwei Solingen Rapier Sword Review by Ian W. Renaissance rapier sword inspired by the famous German sword making city. Rapier sword reviews on SwordReviews.com.

Solingen is a town in Germany which is famous for being the center of swordsmiths during the medieval and Renaissance ages. The Solingen Rapier from Hanwei attempts to pay tribute to the rich history of this glorious city.

This rapier made by Hanwei is a replica of the famed Solingen rapier that originated from the town of the same name. As a replica, it is quite a fantastic creation. In fact, it lives up to the design and style of the original in all ways.

The overall length of this rapier is 45-1/4inches and the length of the blade is 36-5/8 inches. The rapier has been forged with high carbon steel. If you are not very familiar with rapiers or fencing, you may be struck with the appearance of the blade. It is a narrow blade that features a 4-point star shape that is flexible and narrow.

This rapier is not about slashing. Instead, it is all about thrusting. The blade is blunt and it can be difficult to sharpen it if you want. The hilt is of the swept style and is made from stainless steel which decreases the efforts you need to put into its maintenance. The quillons is of the blade catcher style. As for its looks, the hilt is rather simple but elegant nonetheless.

The grip is of the twisted wire style allowing you to remain in control. The good thing about this rapier is that you can replace the blade with a more practical one suited for fencing.

If you are planning to get a rapier for cuts then the Soligen Rapier is not what you are looking for. The core grip is made out of plastic which can be a problem for some users.
