Hanwei Bushido katana review by J. Howard

The Hanwei Bushido Katana SH1210 is one hell of a beauty. Designed to keep up with the tradition and maintain the code of conduct followed by honorable Samurais, the blade comes with a perfect flat surface that is hammer forged. The blade comes folded from the K120C powder steel and with a medium length Kissaki.
There leaves no room for doubt when one looks into the features that make the Hanwei Bushido Katana a rare production sword. It’s a magnificent piece of craftsmanship as well as utilitarian tool.

The sword has an outstanding hada that looks very much like the ayasugi hada.
A hamon or the visual effect that is made from the hardening process looks much like a juzuba style.
A diamond patterned cross-section, which looks much like the swords belonging to the Muromachi period style and has got a  7 mm thin Bugei at the Habaki .
It has got a beautiful saya that comes lacquered with sakura or brass-cherry blossom flower.
A nicely done tsuka that gives away a squarish feeling and will not require any further custom work as it comes with high quality ray skin. Other than that, the tsuba comes with silver and gold details.

As for the disadvantages or the negative side, the sword holds none. From an overall point of view, the sword comes with an elegant design and has specks of metallic paint that complements the rest of the small leaf shaped parts of the design. Looking at the Kurikata side, you will notice that the little brass cherry blossoms are placed approximately ¾ part up the saya. The design pattern continues until it stops at the point of contact with the Kurikata.
The plus point is that, though the sword comes with a comparatively shorter handle, it gets an added grip because of the double pegging style.
